  1. LOVE your podcast/blog. I think I’ve already commented the same thing before… Anyway, you forgot to put the 6th thing; this podcast/blog. You are reaching out to others, in so many ways, foster parents or not. That open dialog about the hows and whys is definitely something you are doing right.

  2. I have enjoyed your podcast so much! What a neat way to share your story! I am not sure if this is how I should go about asking you a question, but I thought I would try it this way. I have been researching about who to work with in becoming a foster adoptive parent, and saw this website http://www.mhfc.com/services/adoption_1.html . Is this the type of agency that you worked with? I am from N.C. and I believe this source is close by. Again thank you so much for the great resource to those of us considering foster parenting.

  3. That’s a great question Catherine. Maybe that will be the subject of a future podcast, “How to choose an agency”.

Unfortunately, we can’t tell enough from the website you listed to know much about them to know if we’d recommend them or not.

  4. Re: fostering, do you have a choice over which agency to go through? I’ve gotten the impression from CHI (the agency through which we’re going, which is a subsidiary of our county’s “umbrella” agency), that we are at the mercy of wherever our county’s social services plops us. Granted, we did have a choice over where we took our MAPP classes and are happy with the choice we made; but at the end of the day, which agency we partner with will largely be dependent on the foster children’s needs and how suitable a match we are deemed to be by the state. We are in Florida, so maybe things are different here than in California. Florida has also had a prior reputation of having shoddy social services in place for foster children/”wards of the state” and has been trying to improve its social services in this arena–the requirements for being a foster parent here in FL are very rigourous and strict, as well I believe they should be, and I can imagine that many if not most states have followed suit in recent years…

  5. In CA you are definitely allowed a choice and the foster child moves under the care of the agency you are with. You can even switch agencies.
