We review “The Blind Side” and give a foster parent’s perspective on the movie. We liked the movie and think you should see it. Perhaps more importantly you might want to take family and friends who are apprehensive about foster care.
Below is the trailer for the movie and a clip from “Mad TV” that we mention in the episode.

I’d be very interested in a show on false allegations. Given how common it is, it’s very frustrating that our pre-service training did not prepare us at all for the investigation process. Topics to consider in such a show:
1. Summary of some statistics about allegations made against foster parents.
2. How to minimize the risk of having an allegation made against you.
3. What to expect in the investigation process.
4. Coping with the stigma of being an “accused child abuser.”
5. How long records of allegations are kept and who has access to those records.
6. How an outstanding allegation can affect your family.
Love the show!
Just in case you didn’t know, the movie mentioned in the beginning, “A Home for the Holidays”, can be rented on Netflix, and probably other places as well.
Never mind, I guess there’s a movie from the 90′s with the same name… Sigh. Guess I need to pay more attention to the movie descriptions…
Hey there,
Take a look at this nauseating news item. May be worth mentioning in a future podcast–

Hi Tim and Wendy,
and felt that it was a great story about this family, however I was very encouraged to hear how you both remind people that theirs is not the everyday foster/adopt family story.
Just wanted to say I really agreed with your thoughts on the movie The Blind Side.
I recently watched the movie (catching up on movies and your pod cast!
You both do such a great job encouraging people to become foster parents with honesty about the challenges families face. I believe as a foster/adopt parent that the blessings and the joys along with the challenges of parenting these children is a gift the Lord gives us. And when those challenging days come along, remember that we are doing kingdom work!
for His glory,
