Episode 88 – What if the Kids Are Taken Away?

W & K at Together for Adoption Conference

K & W at Together for Adoption Conference

W & K share a rare episode.  They were both at the “Together for Adoption” Conference and recorded a podcast while they were there.  W asks K about her emotions after reunifying Tommy and Molly with their birth mother. This is the episode to listen to if you’re worried about forming an attachment and then letting the kids go.

We’d like to let our listeners know about another new podcast by foster parents.  It’s called “The Journey“.  They’ve got a unique story.  We wish them the best as they begin podcasting and parenting. http://thejourneycast.com/

  1. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful podcast. Thank you for sharing your story and your testimony. It is so true…. God’s grace is with you. Our first placement was with us from five days old to 10 months before her reunification. We also thought we would be adopting her. We too went away for a few days after her reunification.. listening to you talk of your experience totally took me back to that place. We have two pictures of her in our bedroom and I still tear up from time to time when I glance at them or when someone asks us about her…..I still get that lump in my throat. Would not change anything about being her “mommy” for those 10 precious months.

God is awesome and our very next placement came to us just a few short weeks after she went home. R was and is our forever baby. He was two days old when we brought him home and found out when he was two months he would be staying forever. God will not forsake you.

Thank you again for sharing.. it is so awesome to hear that yes you can do this.. it is a wonderful experience.

  2. Hi,
Thanks for the shout out! Awesome podcast episode as always!

Even as we go through the licensing process, we learn that there are risks we will need to agree to take. We were skeptical about “saying goodbye” when a child placed with us was reunified, and that skeptisism held us back from the fostercare part of being a fost-adopt family for 5 years. God had to heal our hearts and show us we could move past our comfort zone before we fully surrendered to His calling.
Stay in touch, and we’re so honored to be a part of this podcast family! :-)

    With Love,
Andy and Miranda – The Journey

  4. This podcast came to us in such a perfect time.

We were placed with a little boy who we thought would be our forever child. We went into this journey with the intention of adopting, not just fostering. We have now found out that the County has decided that the he should have been placed with the grandmother. We are devastated and can only look to God’s plan for this child and us. In the coming weeks we will say goodbye to our son and wonder forever how he is doing. Hopefully God will reveal the plan he has for him and us.

Thank you for sharing your story.

  5. Just wanted to point out that you are matched with Punky Brewster on number of episodes, they made 22 episodes each year for 4 years = 88… Just like you guys… But please keep them coming. Sorry I just thought you guys would get a kick out of that fun fact.
My husband and I are considering documenting our journey through the begining stages,(thanks to you guys, I love traveling thru your past 3 years) we have completed the classes but have not yet done our homestudy etc. And we have a pool. So I really want to start people off at this stage of our journey because I have looked everywhere and I can’t find good info on several things about preparing for a homestudy. So we will be experiencing this first hand, and want to share. We actually will be buying a mic for our business website so I can’t wait to use it for podcasting as well. Maybe you should do a podcast about how to podcast ;)
Thank you guys so much for your podcast I got through all 88 episodes in about 2 weeks!!! But now I’m kinda lost as to what to do during all the hours at work with nothing to listen to.

  6. Melissa, you are speaking TWO of my love languages: Punky Brewster AND random facts ABOUT Punky Brewster. I already love you.

Can’t wait to hear your podcast! Let us know when you start. We’ll want to announce it to everyone.

Congratulations on getting started on the home study process.

  8. These podcasts are such a wonderful BLESSING! One of the question we get most often from family & friends about becoming foster parents is “What if get attached and they leave?” It’s so nice to hear this perspective from someone who has been there. Thank you! Thank you!
